A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
Lufthansa and other non-Microsoft services only appear in Microsoft Authenticator after they are explicitly added as TOTP (time-based one-time password) accounts. Simply opening Microsoft Authenticator will not automatically show the Lufthansa account.
To use Microsoft Authenticator with Lufthansa, the Lufthansa account must first be set up for two-step verification and then added to the app:
- Sign in to the Lufthansa account in a browser and go to its security / login / two-step verification (2FA) settings.
- Enable two-step verification for the Lufthansa account.
- In Lufthansa’s 2FA setup, choose the option to use an authenticator app (TOTP). The site will typically show either:
- A QR code, or
- A secret key to enter manually.
- In Microsoft Authenticator, add the Lufthansa account:
- Open Microsoft Authenticator.
- Tap Add account.
- Choose the appropriate account type for a non-Microsoft site (for example, a generic “other” or similar option for non-Microsoft accounts).
- Scan the QR code Lufthansa shows, or, if scanning is not possible, use the option in Authenticator to enter the code manually.
- After adding it, Microsoft Authenticator will show a 6‑digit verification code for the Lufthansa account. Enter that code back on the Lufthansa setup page to complete the binding.
- From then on, use the 6‑digit code shown for the Lufthansa entry in Microsoft Authenticator when Lufthansa asks for an authenticator code.
If Lufthansa does not offer any way to configure an authenticator app (no QR code and no secret key in its security settings), then Microsoft Authenticator cannot be used with that Lufthansa account; in that case, another verification method offered by Lufthansa must be used.
