edit word doc

I am writing a thesis using Word 365 on my Mac. I switched it off and back on, but it still won't let me edit my doc. I can access the document, but I cannot edit it. Please, I am in the middle of a submission. It may be because I have an old Mac but the otherone got stollen and this is whta I have.

    Which operating system are you running on the old Mac? If it not a recent version of macOS, you may have to "downgrade" to an earlier release of your Microsoft subscription. See https://www.brandwares.com/bestpractices/2023/03/most-recent-office-you-can-run-best-practices/ .

    For the fastest way to continue your submission, go to www.office.com, sign in, click on the 9dots on upper left to find Word, upload the document, and try editing it in Word for the web. Word for the web can edit documents directly in a browser, even when the desktop app has an activation or compatibility problem.
