DHCP IP Lease for SCCM OSD

In our SCCM 1910 environment - we have provisioned 5 Win10 based PXE enabled DPs to cater 5 separate VLANs.
Everything works fine with first 10 machines in each VLAN but as soon as we try to build more machines lets say 20 machines from each VLAN, 11th machine onwards - do not get the IP from DHCOP hence OSD doesnt work.

Please suggest what should we keep as the IP lease Time and how can we ensure that the 11th device onwards IP is assigned so that OSD works.

I would check what the scope usage is on the DHCP server assigning addresses. Is the range limited on available addresses?

    Hi,

Thanks for posting in Q&A platform.

Before we go further, may I know the size of address range for distribution of each scope and how long will these clients stay in corresponded VLAN?

Please refer to the following recommendation for DHCP lease time,

    • For wired devices, a lease time of 8 days is a typical period. Wired devices won’t leave the network often, so there is no reason to create a shorter period. A shorter period only increases the DHCP-related network traffic.
    • Wireless devices tend to leave the network pretty often and can stay away for a couple of days. So a smaller lease of 24 hours is pretty common. This way regular devices will keep mostly the same IP Address.
    • For guest networks and hotspots, you want a short lease time. Hotspots an hour max, while for Office guest networks 8 hours will work fine.
    • Always make sure 20% of the DHCP pool remains available. To calculate the potential amount of devices in the network and add 20%. Increase the pool size or lower the DHCP Lease Time to make it fit.
