SQL Licensing with different licensing streams including runtime license.
Hi All. We have a single SQL VM hosting a SAP SQL database with a runtime license supplied by SAP for 4 cores. We now need to run a separate application that uses SQL and host the database on the same SQL VM as SAP. The runtime license will not allow us to use the SAP SQL runtime license as it is for SAP and it's components only. The question is, can we buy another SQL core license from a MS retailer for 4 cores and run the other applications on the same server under a different licensing model.
We would like SAP to utilise both sets of licensed cores so it is spanning over two license types. The only way to ensure that the other applications are restricted to 4 cores only is to limit the core usage on a separate instance.
So
SAP instance - total 8 cores (4 from SAP runtime license and 4 from Retail SQL License)
Other application instance - total 4 cores from Retail SQL License
Is this possible?
