got a windows domain environment.

got more than 100 clients- all are server2016 OS.. all shows up in WSUS , except 1 client (2016 server)

wsus configured with gpo.
no issues from wsus server side - because all clients connects/shows up properly except one.

things checked in problematic client machine :
* wsus gpo shows up in gpresult /r
* checked registery - shows up wsus server name
* can telnet nameofwsus:8530
* can telnet ipofwsus:8530
* can telnet fqdn ofwsus:8530
* can telnet to port 80 as well
* can ping to wsus

  • only problem i found is : if i open edge - i cannot browse to http://wsusservername:8530
    it shows cannot reach the page. = tried with wsusserver / fqdn

when i try to do updates or force report to wsus : getting 0x8024401C error
tried stopping BITS/windows updates/clearing software distribution folder = did not work .

any other ideas ?

    @mr.X
    Thanks for your posting on Q&A.

    We recommended to check the connection between WSUS server and the device by browe the following URL:
    Open the IE browser and print the URL http://WSUS Server:8530/selfupdate/iuident.cab.
    You will get a iuident.cab file if the coonection is OK.

    Here is explanation of the error code:
    0x8024401C -2145107940 WU_E_PT_HTTP_STATUS_REQUEST_TIMEOUT Same as HTTP status 408 - the server timed out waiting for the request.

    It seems that the Server could not connect to the WSUS Server right now. Perhaps the WSUS is busy right now. Follow the below steps to clean up WSUS cache and configure the IIS and check whether it is helpful:

    Please try to run the Server Cleanup Wizard and follow the below link to maintenance WSUS:
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/mem/configmgr/windows-server-update-services-best-practices

    Hope the above will be helpful.

    Best regards,
    Rita

    Best thing to do is run the client side script on the 1 2016 box.
    https://www.ajtek.ca/wsus/client-machines-not-reporting-to-wsus-properly/

    If after running the client side script, it doesn't appear within 5 minutes (really it should appear within 1), then proceed down the troubleshooting part of the page.
