Question

Chrome not saving passwords Azure Virtual Desktop

Every day when users sign into AVD , passwords saved to Chrome Password manager will have disappeared.

Could you advise what we can check to resolve?

Can you please share below information for assisting you better.
What kind of host pools are you using?
Are you using FSLogix in those pools?

Also check are they disappearing due to group policies in AD / if you are using Intune, then check Config Profiles for chrome.

We are also experiencing this issue.

Latest Win10EMS+Office Gen2 -- FSlogix using Azure Files and system is Azure AD joined.

After saving credentials to Google Chrome, the user logs off and comes back and the passwords are all blank. This is happening against all users in this environment and it's brand new.

I'm happy to provide any information, this is probably my 30th AVD environment, 400 seats built and this is the first time I've seen this issue.

This issue needs deeper investigation. Support team will be able to check and help on this. I would recommend you to open a azure support case.

I am curious as to why this happens as well, since we are seeing this within our environment as well.
If the case is resolved- please let us know the outcome. This is bugging our users and us as well recently.

We are in process of moving multiple environments to AVD and this issue is a show stopper for a lot of our deployments.
Problem is not just the Chrome, Edge does the same thing, Windows 10 or 11 same problem.
Looks like Issues is related to Fslogix and Azure AD Joined AVD.
Everything works normally when using Local AD as authentication method for Azure storage account.

Please provide updates.

In working with Microsoft support, we found that if we add this registry key (reg add HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\AzureADAccount /v LoadCredKeyFromProfile /t REG_DWORD /d 1) (described HERE), we had the credentials be saved.
This is one of those registry settings where the AVD host will need to be rebooted, and the users will probably need to enter their passwords in Chrome/Edge again. But, in our testing, that should be the last time. Browser credentials are persistent even after a host reboot.

I find that this works when rebooting the host, but not when stopping (deallocating) a host and restarting. Are you able to persist credentials then?

Yes. We are seeing persistent credentials (once we add the registry key, reboot, and type the credentials once) even after the host is deallocated.
It may be a specific app/webpage that's not causing the credentials to be saved.

@Dave Stephenson thanks for that. Actually we are trying to persist Windows credentials through credential manager and none are persisted. I think I may have found the issue though. It seems to be related to the credential guard that is auto enabled in Win 11 22H2. Disabling it seems to have solved our issue. What Windows build are you using?

Ya . . . Credential Guard can be annoying. We're using the same release.
If I remember correctly, we disabled it as well.
I'm hoping someone from @Microsoft finds a way to allow persistent credentials on AVDs without jumping through all of these hoops. 😞

Ya . . . Credential Guard can be quite annoying. If I remember right, we disabled it on the same version of Windows.
