Is there an EOL for Microsoft Active Directory Federated Services

I am required to install federated services for a new application. Does Microsoft plan to exit or EOL the AD FS in the near future or is AD FS here to stay and will Microsoft continue to offer updates in new versions of Windows Server 2022 and newer? We do not yet use Azure nor M365 and have no immediate plans so AD FS would be an on premises install.

The best I have found is this recommendation;

Instead of upgrading to the latest version of AD FS, Microsoft highly recommends migrating to Azure AD - Microsoft

We are opting to move our SPs to AzureAD and Shibboleth over the coming months, rather than upgrade the aging ADFS elements.

Although there is no date for EOL for ADFS. Microsoft recommends migrating to Azure AD instead of upgrading to the latest version of ADFS because Azure AD provides a cloud-based identity and access management service that can help you manage your users and applications more efficiently.

You can also upgrade your farm behavior level for Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) when using Windows Internal Database (WID)<sup>2</sup>.

If you want to migrate from federation to cloud authentication in Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), you can install Azure Active Directory Connect (Azure AD Connect) or upgrade to the latest version<sup>3</sup>.

Quite helpful @Yelitza Del Pilar Arostegui .

I should say there has been emerging uncertainity in recent months around this EOL for ADFS and whether microsoft continues to support new releases or new features on it. Some recent rumors even suggested that the team working on ADFS at microsoft had been disbanded about 3 years ago.

As you rightly mentioned, there is no official announcement or date as to when the EOL for ADFS will be other than the recommendation that was provided in your link above.

Through a bit of research I've come to the conclusion that there is no public announcement for end of life for ADFS.
