SharePoint Migration

Hello,

Please forgive me if these questions have been answered already. I can't seem to find the answers I am looking for.

I am not IT nor do I have admin privileges but I know that the end result will involve IT. I am only looking to understand how migrating files from the network to SharePoint works. From what I've read, using the SharePoint migration tool can accomplish this task. Here are my questions.

  1. After the files are migrated, will I have a link in my file explorer window with a link to Sharepoint? Currently, in my file explorer window I see a OneDrive link. Will I have a link that says Sharepoint? 250175-capture1.jpg
  2. Will I still have access to the list of files that I see in my file explorer or will have have to open Sharepoint online to view/edit my files?
  3. Is it possible to share a file/folder with employees using SharePoint like I do with OneDrive rather than migrating the files? What are the differences?

Here is a mapping vs migration question.

  1. If I mapped my drive to SharePoint and continued working off my server, would the work I save on my server automatically save to SharePoint and vice versa?

Thanks!

    Dear @Penny007 ,

Thank you for your post in our forum.

I will answer your questions in turn:

    1. No.
    2. You still have access in file explorer.
    3. It is not possible, you have to migrate the files to SharePoint before you share them.
    4. No, they will not be synchronized with each other.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do feel free to contact me.

    Yours sincerely,
    Renjie Sun

@Renjie Sun-MSFT Thank you so much for your answers. They were very helpful.

In regards to answer #2. I'm trying to picture what file explorer would look like after the migration. Would the files still be in the same location or would they be under One Drive in a drop down menu? Anything visual example would be helpful.

    Thanks!
