VMM2016 Console Client install hanging

The VMM 2016 Console client install is sometimes hanging for a reason I can't determine during our automated installs (we are using MDT to drive the installs on VMs). When it hangs, attaching to the console of the affected machine unblocks the install and it continues. We probably haven't seen this before as we used to attach to the build consoles regularly to check on progress, but we don't anymore.

From what we can tell, it is hanging during the Admin Console MSI install - all prerequisites have passed at this point and the installer is running. The C:\ProgramData\AdminConsole.log is incomplete and the installer starting it all is still waiting (can see an process chain of setup.exe -> SetupVMM.exe /client -> vmstpstub.cmd -> SetupVM.exe ... /client)

Any ideas on what may be wrong?

    @Tony Gedge

    Can you fin any error message in AdminConsole.log when the installation is hanging?

    I'm not very familiar with MDT. Just in case, did you also check the log files on the MDT server?

    Since the VMM console is installed over the network, is it possible that there is a network connectivity problem before attaching to the console?

    There is no error in the AdminConsole.log - the MSI install simply hangs.
