Hi Guys,

I trust this question finds you and your family very well.

I am new with DNS & DHCP. I have been studying a little bit and what i have found on the web is that the Aging and Scavenging should be defined based on the DHCP lease, nevertheless, in the small company where i am a LV2 IT Technician, we have multiple Vlan in the DHCP where multiple leases have been defined.

Example:
Scope 1 = 1 Day
Scope 2 = 12 Hours
Scope 3 = 7 Days
Scope 4 = 8 Days
Scope 5 (Wifi) = 8 Hours
Scope 6 = 3 Days
Scope 7 = 170 Days
Scope 8 = 2 Day
Scope 9 = 5 Day

Considering that multiple Leases have been configured on the DHCP, could you please have the kindness of sharing with me the best way to activate Aging and Scavenging?

Thank you very much for your help and support and have an amazing and wonderful day.

Best Regards,

Peace

If you can configure dynamic updates would be the best solution.

    Morning DSPatrick,

I trust this finds you well today and sorry for my late reply, i someone in my family had a cancer intervention... All is good for now.

Could you please elaborate on why this would be the best solution? What would be the difference between dynamic updates in DHCP and Aging & Scavenging in DNS?

One of the issues that we are facing is that sometimes on the DNS, we have the same IP assigned to 3 PCs or more (sometimes we cant even trust the ping tool because a different computer responds instead of the right one). This complicates things for IT Support and this is why we are would like to activate Aging and Scavenging. If we configure dynamic updates on the DHCP, would the old records (same ip assigned to 3 pcs or more) will be as well deleted from the DNS?

I am sorry for my lack of knowledge and thank you very much for your help and support.

Thank you, happy day and best regards,

    Peace

    Good Evening DSPatrick,

I trust this finds you well today and sorry for my late reply again.

I have watched the video that you sent me, thank you very much, it is very kind of you.

I was able to see the best practices to configure the DHCP and the DNS. And after configuring dynamics updates with the Account and the AD Group, the PC register herself on the DNS (Reverse).

Nevertheless, I could not see on the video the answer of my previous question:

Could you please elaborate on why this would be the best solution? What would be the difference between dynamic updates in DHCP and Aging & Scavenging in DNS?

What will happen with all the dns records after activating this option on the DHCP? Will they be deleted?

Yes, I completely agree. You should use both scavenging and dynamic updates.
