Azure Backup with Windows Admin Center - Invalid vault credentials provided

Hi,

we are trying to set up Azure Backup for our on premises servers with the Windows Admin Center.
The WAC is registered in Azure.
We set it up one day and created an new vault for AzBackup from within the WAC but then realized that this vault is geo-redundant, which we don't want. So we deleted that vault and created a new one manually (locally-redundant).
But now - if we try to set up Azure Backup within the Windows Admin Center we always get the error "Invalid vault credentials provided".
The agent gets installed without a problem.

We have no clue what's the issue here.

Can anyone help?

Yeah, we read about the new credentials too. But how do we register those to the WAC? Where are the old credentials stored? We don't see an option to change that...

@Markus Quirmbach Not sure if I understand your question correctly. Microsoft Azure Recovery Services (MARS) and Microsoft Azure Backup Server (MABS_ or DPM, as far as I know do not support Windows Backup Center. You need to physical install these tools from server itself. So, outside of Window Backup Center. Also, for monitoring it is not supported. You have to use log analytics.

Also, from Azure support perspective we do not support/provide technical support assistance as it is not a supported scenario. You may want to check with Windows team to understand more about Azure Backup tab created in the Dashboard and the purpose behind it.

Hello

First of all to clear up any confusion: Both accounts, "1812" and "6876", belong to me. For some reasons I have two accounts and answered with the wrong one - sorry!

@SadiqhAhmed-MSFT : I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the "Windows Backup Center".

When I installed the Windows ADMIN Center I registered it with our subscription and created a new Backup Vault. There I could backup VMs from our on-premises AD-Domain using Azure Backup.
But we deleted that vault and created another one in Azure. Now, in WAC, I can choose this new vault for Azure Backup, but the WAC keeps saying the credentials are not correct. So I'm looking to update the credentials for the new vault in the WAC.

Did you try manually downloading vault credentials from Azure portal and uploading the same?

That's the point - upload where? Where in the WAC can I upload a vault credential? Maybe I just can't see the forest for the trees...

Thank you for your answer. Unfortunately, the article does not tell me whre to put the new Vault credentials...

Unfortunately we only have the basic support plan and with this I can't create a support ticket for Azure Backup. That's why I opened this thread.
Am I the only one who ever changed the target Backup Vault in WAC and faced this problem???

Im having the exact same problem. First time setting up WAC and trying Backup. I am presented with the exact same error - and as the OP mentioned, there is no manual place to insert a new vault credentials file in the WAC. Anybody resolved this yet?

"Invalid vault credentials provided. The file is either corrupted or does not have the latest credentials associated with recovery service. We recommend you download a new vault credentials file from the portal and use it within 2 days"

@David Cloutier , Did you ever get an answer from Azure support about this? I'm having the exact same issue and it's almost a year later. Configuring Azure Backup on the server itself and that results in being visible in WAC afterwards, but that's besides the point. So it seems to be a WAC bug imho.

If the old vault is registered on the windows admin center still or the new vault is using the vault credentials file from the old vault then most likely that you will encounter this error.

Remediation:
Download the latest vault credential file from the new vault and use it to reregister the vault with new credentials files.
