Hi All,

I would like to know is there any way to retain the particular backup instance of azure Virtual machine without changing the backup policy.

Thanks.

    Hi Vinoth,

You can manually retain a specific Azure Backup restore point of a VM by restoring it.

For example, say you need to keep the backup instance of a VM that occurred last week for 1 year or more, however, you know that it will be deleted before then due to your backup policy. You could restore the VM to a different storage account and resource group and keep the VM stopped. That way you can manually decide when to delete it. Or, you could restore just the VM disk(s).

    Hi @Vinoth Kaliaperumal ,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A platform. Happy to answer your question.

In addition to what TP-MVP suggested, I would like to add my recommendation here
Firstly, we don't have a way to retain a specific backup instance without changing the policy. If the requirement is to retain the backup for a VM for certain time period, you can trigger an on-demand backup and chose a specific retention date.

Note: The retention range for an on-demand backup is the retention value that you specify when you trigger the backup.
Reference : Run an on-demand backup

    Hope this helps!
