How to get Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data.dll for visual studio 2022, framework 4.8.1

Hi,

Add Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data, Version: 2.0.0.0 to the website in my VS 2022 solution.

when I try to the add Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data namespace in the .cs code of the website, it throws below error.

The type or namespace name 'ApplicationBlocks' does not exist in the namespace 'Microsoft' (are you missing an assembly reference?)

Please help.

Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data, Version: 2.0.0.0 is part of Microsoft Enterprise Library 2.0, released in Jan 2006. Do you really want to use that deprecated thing? It is not supported any more, and there are tons of modern alternatives out there.

Thanks for the reply. We are migrating one of our existing project to VS 2022. The existing project is using Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data, Version: 2.0.0.0.

Can you please let us know the alternative to Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data, Version: 2.0.0.0 as we want to migrate the project with minimal code changes?

"Minimal code changes" is impossible. Most users migrated to an ORM framework like Entity Framework around 2010, but there are other alternatives if you ask search engines.

Hi @Sandhya P , Did you download the Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data nuget package? https://www.nuget.org/packages/Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data How are you using the dll.? I did a simple test with no errors.

But, when we are trying to add Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data to a aspx.cs file of website project of VS 2022 solution, then we see below issue. The type or namespace name 'ApplicationBlocks' does not exist in the namespace 'Microsoft' (are you missing an assembly reference?)

I tested in the aspx.cs file of the website project in VS 2022 and found no problems.

Do you have a specific line of code where the error is being reported? Maybe you can provide it so we can test it for you.

I think you can create a new website and re-download the Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data package to try.

Hi Lan Huang,

We identified that we removed the below tag from web.config after migrating an existing project to VS 2022.

After adding back the below tag in web.config, issue with Application blocks got resolved.
