I need to link my own domain to my Teams. My domain is example.com but on the file manager, it shows as home/example. Therefore I cannot link using the text file as example.com domain does not exist and is not found.

How else can I link it?

Sorry I am not sure I understand your question.

Would you please clarify on "My domain is example.com but on the file manager, it shows as home/example."?

Are you referring to the application File manager?
