Can't manage namespace in DFS Management on DC

Hi all,

I am running into a problem with DFS Management. Here is my setup:

I'm running two replating domain controllers. On these DC's i also run DFS(R).

Both DC's do host the same namespace.

On clients i can access the two shares in the namespace.

How ever, when i shutdown DC1 i'm facing a problem on DC2.

In DFS Management i can't manage the namespace and i'm getting the error: The namespace cannot be queried. The specified server cannot perform the requested operation.

The strange thing is that, while DC1 is powered off, from the client side I can still reach the shares by namespace.

When I leave DC1 powered on and shutdown DC2 the problem does not exist at all.

I tried several things with both AD and DFS diagnostics but without any result.

So in the situation my DC1 fails my clients can still access the shares but the admins can't manage the namespace in DFS Management.

Any suggestions from your side?

Kind Regards!

Hi. Thank you for your question and reaching out. I’d be more than happy to help you with your query

To fix the error "Can't manage namespace in DFS Management on DC", first check if the DFS service is running on the domain controller. If the service is not running, start the service and try again. If the service is running, try restarting the server. If the issue persists, check if the domain controller is a valid namespace server. If it is not, add the domain controller as a namespace server. Finally, make sure that the Distributed File System Replication service is running on the domain controller.
