Hi everyone!

May someone help me with the following message error?

2020-10-05 20:44:35 1036 DhcpServer The DHCP server was unable to create or lookup the DHCP Administrators local group on this computer. The error code is in the data.
2020-10-05 20:44:35 1035 DhcpServer The DHCP service was unable to create or lookup the DHCP Users local group on this computer. The error code is in the data.

What doesn't make sense is that there are already such groups within the domain, so why create the same groups locally? What exactly does this message mean?

    Hi @Doria ,

According to the two (2) events 1035 & 1036, the DHCP role is installed on the server but the Security group DHCP Users and DHCP Administrators are missing in the Active Directory users and computers, but this doesn't appear to be the case as we can clearly see them in your screenshot.

I suggest you start by restarting the DHCP server service and check if the error events are still being generated. If this doesn't help you could try uninstalling the DHCP role, restart the server, and then re-install the DHCP role again.

Is it you first DHCP Server installation in this domain?
Is your DHCP Server authorized in Active Directory?
Did you try to restart service or reinstall it?

    Good morning all!

Thanks for all answers. It is not my first DHCP on the network, I have restarted several times and I cannot remove and reinstall the service again, as it is a DHCP in production.

What about PS 'Add-DhcpServerSecurityGroup' cmdlet? Will it solve the issue?

    Thanks.

    @Doria Hi,

Thank you for posting in Q&A!

Acoording to the previous case of event 1035, the solution should be that restarting the DHCP server serivce or de-installation and re-installation of the DHCP role according to:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/38bb2d35-5ac1-44bd-a90f-933acc0ae890/event-id-1035-8212-the-dhcp-service-was-unable-to-create-or-lookup-the-dhcp-users-local-group-on?forum=winserverNIS

But since it's unconvenient for you to do this, you can try to use PS command to add the DHCP security group and restart the service

    Add-DhcpServerSecurityGroup -ComputerName "dhcp2.lab.com" or
    netsh dhcp> add securitygroups

    Hi everyone!

After restarting the service, the error was no longer recorded in the system event.

    Thanks all!
