We are migrating from Sharepoint 2013 to Sharepoint 2016 by copying databases and upgrading the databases and applications et.

The microsoft learn page -

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/upgrade-and-update/copy-databases-to-the-new-farm-for-upgrade-to-sharepoint-server-2016

says to put the databases ( on the SP 2013 SQL instance) in read only mode before taking backups etc. However this will put the Sp 2013 system as read only.

At this sage we are only doing a test migration, and would like the SP 2013 instance to be updateable all the time.

Will the (test) migration still work if the databases are not set to read only first ?

Thanks

In the migration, setting the databases as read-only is to make sure that you capture all the data in the backup databases so that you restore and migration the current state of the environment without allowing additional changes to be made.

If it is guaranteed that the data will not be changed in the test migration, you do not need to set the databases as read-only.
