Additional Printer Confirmation Page - How to really annoy your end users:)

Hi,

A long story on how we got here, but in an effort to avoid users printing to the wrong printer (when working from home or a remote office), I've been asked to find out if an additional confirmation window can be triggered after the end-user hits "Print".

From a process perspective, the end-user would hit “Print”, the job would be paused and a window would come up saying “Are you sure you want to print to this printer?”.  The hope is they would then confirm they are printing to their intended printer, and either go forward or cancel the job and select the correct printer. I haven't found much on this via Google. I'm beginning to think it's not possible using native Windows tools, but I'm hoping the experts can clear this up.

I considered Task Scheduler, but even if I found the correct source and event ID, I don't think it will interrupt the process, the pop up would just come up.

We've moved away from our Print Server and using PrinterLogic. I'm currently waiting on an answer from them.

Any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Santiago

    Hello there,

May be you can use GPO to configure additional settings to make sure the print job is not send to wrong location.

This article describes the policies specific to managing printers and how to enable or disable printer management by using the Local Group Policy Editor.

There are two kinds of configurations that can be set for printers in a Group Policy setting:

    Computer Configuration

    User Configuration

Hope this resolves your Query !!

@Limitless Technology Thanks for getting back to me. My apologies in advance if my follow up questions are way off the mark. I usually deal with the client facing portion of the department. I'm hoping to give the admin team a head start with this research/get a little more exposure myself.

    • Can you confirm which configuration you are referring to? I originally thought may be "Computer Location" or "Pre-populate printer search location text", but they appear geared toward searching for a printer to install. The issue we are having is users just printing to their default printer when in a different location.
    • Can any of these be used outside of a print server?

    Thanks again!
