Upgrade of a SUSE SLES VM from suse12 sp5 to suse15 sp4 is failing

hello all My current suse linux version is SUSE12SP5 My target version is SUSE15SP4 I followed all of the steps listed in the Azure documentation (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/azure/virtual-machines/linux-upgrade-suse-15sp1 and following that, it is still showing same os-release . the os-release upgrade or migrate is not happening Although I also see from the suse portal that offline upgrade from sles12sp5 to 15sp4 is possible please suggest

- If you have already followed the documentation steps, I would recommend going through the SUSE guides on Using the SUSE Distribution Migration System and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP1 Upgrade Guide and follow the steps shared there.
- Upgrading the system is only supported from the most recent patch level. Make sure the latest system updates are installed by either running
zypper patchor by starting the YaST module Online-Update. - Check the system requirements: Make sure that your server meets all the system requirements for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP4. Check the hardware and software requirements to ensure compatibility.
- Verify the repositories: Verify that the correct repositories are configured for the upgrade. The upgrade process requires specific repositories that contain the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP4 packages. You may need to add or modify repositories manually.
- Use the offline upgrade method

- yes after the image is spinned up I have given the zypper updates command to update the patches to latest version before trying SLES15 migration
- I am not using LTSS subscription model since this image is a pay as you go while selecting the image . also all the repo shown in this link are for SLE12 I dont see configuring any repo for SLE15 manually . if there is something please do share those steps

- My intention is upgrade / migrate to SLES 15SP4 since there is no documentation in azure documents for 15SP1 i referred to that in the documentation . I would more like microsoft / azure support to look into this link https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/azure/virtual-machines/linux-upgrade-suse-15sp1 and specifically guide me where I am going wrong or why is it failing here as you have given this document / steps and there must be a use -case which you have tested which is not working for me this I feel is a priority which I am looking for your response and feedback
- . Q)offline methods .I tried it and kind a worked . But I am not sure if its the correct process . I have downloaded the iso from the suse website and mounted as local iso image that to is not straight forward I see that kernel upgrade is first happening to kernel-azure-5.14.21-150400.12.1.x86_64 , however I have to disable the other sles 12 repos before I do that . because the kernel update is conflict with the existing public repo from azure suse maanager repo and the os-release update is not happening so I had to update the kernel to kernel-azure-5.14.21-150400.12.1.x86_64 which is SLES15SP4 compatible and then manually try to fetch the package for os-release from the iso sles-release-15.4-150400.55.1.x86_64.rpm and then again do a zypper update and reboot .later after I finally struggled and tried to update os-release then I wanted to connect to suse 15 repo in cloud the system registration is not happened . like I said before since the pay as you go model it should directly connect I see some gaps and steps SUSEConnect -p SLES/15.4/x86.64 OPTIONS Registering system to registration proxy https://smt-azure.susecloud.net Updating system details on https://smt-azure.susecloud.net ... Activating SLES 15.4 x86.64 ... Error: Registration server returned 'No product found' (422) still I dont see how to reconfigure yast after that as yast is failing .Please suggest
6.I still have doubts like how will the azure portal or agent detect the system is updated / migrated to a new release wil the agent deduct automatically display the OS version accordingly in the portal . how the sync or further patch / repo updates will happpen Pls suggest
