I have noticed in my environment a test system I use with the OS

Windows 10 x64 Version 22H2 Build 19045.2965

Is having issues establishing rdp sessions with different servers one of them being a system with the following OS.

Windows Server 2019 x64 Version 1809 Build 17763.4377

Entering the correct credentials in rdp authentication prompt produce the following error.

An Authentication error has occurred (Code: 0x800706be).

The credentials are known to be valid and work when using them on a local domain computer or on the remote server with Bomgar.

In reliability monitor I found the following problem details.

I have already tried the typical "sfc /scannow" and "dism" commands to attempted a repair but no issues are detected.

Also have tried an in place upgrade to update/repair the OS that way however these errors persist.

The issue with the following DLL seems to be negatively impacting other authentication mechanisms.

credprovhost.dll

Anyone seeing something similar to this?

    Hello,

If sfc /scannow and DISM didn't resolve the issue, and that an in-place upgrade also didn't fix the problem. It may indicate a more complex issue with your system.

You could consider replacing credprovhost.dll with a known good version from a similar, fully updated and compatible system. However, this is a risky step and should only be taken with great caution.

    Regards,

    Karlie
