Web servers on Azure Labs

I want to create a lab of LAMP webservers using Azure lab services. I have two issues. 1. The cheapest machines are 20cent an hour. I want to keep the webservers running for 3 months. I need cheaper low powered options. 2. I want public ips for each machine.

For cheaper and low-powered options, you can consider using Azure's B-series virtual machines. These virtual machines are cost-effective and provide burstable performance, which means they offer higher CPU performance only when needed. B-series VMs can help reduce costs while still meeting your web server requirements.

To assign public IPs to each machine in your lab, you can leverage Azure's Azure Load Balancer service. By creating a load balancer and configuring it with a public IP address, you can distribute incoming traffic across your LAMP webservers. Each webserver instance behind the load balancer can have a private IP, while the load balancer exposes a public IP for external access.

By combining B-series VMs with an Azure Load Balancer, you can achieve cost-effective and scalable LAMP web servers with individual public IPs for each machine.

Hello, I think we are getting wires crossed here. I am talking about your labs.azure.com service. There is minimal configuration options available. Machine sizes are chosen based on cost and the cheapest is about 20c an hour. Also there is no options to configure IP addresses. I want all machine to be accessable externally via a public IP. Each student is developing a webpage on their own server. I want to to get their own domain names and secure certs so they will all need there own personal public IP for their Lamp server.

Labs.Azure.com provides a specific environment aimed at classroom scenarios. If there are 10 students that each use the VM for 10 hours per week, then you pay for 100 VM hours for that week, not 1680 hours.

If your requirement is better suited to a more fully featured Azure environment (needing more flexibility on VM’s and features) then you’ll find a larger selection of VM Sku’s available in using a full Azure subscription.
