Sizing hardware server for 100 users

Hello.

I would like to know how to calculate or forecast server resources? Is there a server hardware sizing calculator?

How much resource power will take from server CPU (cores/threads) and RAM (GB) to accommodate safely 100 users concurrently?

I need to accommodates 100 users and I don't know a safe point or best point about how much resources this will consume per user, so I can purchase a high-end server.

  • 100 Users using local and remote sessions.
  • Active directory based.
  • File server sharing, office 365 and some of these users will use AutoCAD.

For example:

  • How much cores/threads do I need for all 100 users? I'm thinking about 2 Xeons, but I don't know how much cores/threads this will take based on those uses.
  • How much GB of RAM per users based on those uses?

I know the more, the better, but I want to be safe without breaking the bank.

Thanks.

Microsoft doesn't provide much in the way of sizing tools. All of the major server manufacturers have trained personnel that can size their hardware for the specs a customer provides. The server manufacturer will be your best resource for this task.
