The hundreds of photos I have stored in folders in File Explorer PICTURES are also displaying separately in thumbnails outside of their folders, mixed together with the much smaller number of random photos that aren't in folders. In other words, when I cut and paste a photo into a folder, the thumbnail isn't deleted from the general mix.

It makes it impossible to browse through the random photos that I haven't categorized.

This is happening on my new laptop with the latest Windows 11. I didn't have this problem on my previous laptop which also had Windows 11. Is there a fix?

Clear icon cache to fix the issue.

Open File Explorer.

Navigate to the following location: C:\Users%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer

Delete all the files beginning with iconcache. Then you will see a new folder named IconCacheToDelete.

Restart your computer and the IconCacheToDelete folder will disappear.
