Can anyone advise ?
Share Vs NTFS permission - Logged on Locally
I have Windows Server 2016 installed. I was configuring share / NTFS permission for our users folders. Since I was confused so I tried to surf net and came across below details
- NTFS permissions are for users logon to server locally
- Use only NTFS permissions for local users — Share permissions apply only to users who access shared resources over the network; they do not apply to users who log on locally.
Now what I do is Windows Server 2016 as mentioned above is a File Server, as and when I configure folders, users access those folders from there Windows 10 - Workstation. Now can anyone explain what does the above two statements say! Since if I am configuring NTFS permission then how come user will be login to server locally ? And Sharing / NTFS permission both I configure for users who are going to access folders / files on server on network not locally !
Please advise!
