SharePoint 2013 configuration cache with TMP Files

Hello,

In my SharePoint farm we have one web front end and one application server working together to handle search services. About twice a month I have had one server that seems to have problems with the configuration cache files. Several files look like they started to update and then never completed, so they are stuck as a TMP file. This breaks our search capabilities and I have to flush the config cache, clear the search index, and re-run a full crawl to get things working again. This takes a long time to complete.

Does anyone out there know why my config cache keeps getting out of sync?

Have you configured your local antivirus (either the built-in Windows Defender or 3rd party) to exclude scanning of the Config directory?

Hello Emily,

I have actually already reset the configuration cache. In fact the problem is that I have to keep resetting the configuration cache, sometimes 3-4 times a month. What I'm looking for is a solution for the .tmp files and how to prevent the configuration cache from getting out of sync. This shouldn't be happening so often. I have 4 other farms I administer and they almost never need to have the configuration cache reset. Then there is this one site that has issues several times a month.
