Does Azure DMS support Cross-Tenant migration?

Hi guys,

I am trying to test the migration of Azure DB for MySQL Single from one tenant to MySQL Flex on another tenant&subscriptions.

I know it support migration from one region, subscription, ResourceGroup to another, but not sure if this support also cross-tenant.

Can anyone know the support matrix?

In your case i would create a Subscription and move supported resources into

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-resource-manager/management/move-support-resources

Then you can change Subscritpion Directory aka Tenant and you are good to go!

I have checked on the ask internally and got the reply as below:

You should be able to perform a cross-tenant migration using Azure DMS Portal by selecting “MySQL” source type instead of ‘MySQL Single Server’. Additionally, Azure DMS CLI supports cross tenant migration.

If I need to create DMP source as just MySQL, then does it also support online migration?
Cuz I can't find the docs for MySQL to Azure Database for MySQL Online migration.

Here I could see you in the screenshots, you are using MySQL Single Server.

Kindly use “MySQL” source type instead of ‘MySQL Single Server’.

Hello Shakiti,

This is created with MySQL as a source.

If you create MySQL Single Server as a source, you have to pick and choose the source server from the listed mysql servers not just typing in the server name.

I've success to DMS of MySQL from one tenant to other.

On project, you should choose MySQL and Azure Databse for MySQL as a target and you can write source fqdn if DMS can connect.

This is point where I have follow-up question.

How can I connect to source MySQL from different tenant if that database is deny public access and connect only with private endpoint?

I've verified that DMS can't connect to source if it denies public access.

I've also checked that just vnet peering between the tenant is not enough.

DMS couldn't resolve source database with public FQDN nor privatelink.
