We regularly have the creation of avhdx disks which seem to be due to Veeam snapshots and which do not purge themselves

We are unable to find the origin of this problem.

Windows and Veeam One events

Background disk merge 'SV201914' could not complete successfully: The process cannot access the file because this file is in use by another process. (0x80070020). (VM ID E3EA3B16-248D-45CF-8223-63EB23C78C93)

The particularity is that a replication witch Veeam of certain virtual machines is carried out on the same cluster but with a different storage from the production storage
I don't know if this can have an impact

    Hi,

If you want to purge the avhdx files, just delete the checkpoints from the Checkpoints pane in Hyper-V Manager. This will merge an avhdx file to its parent virtual disk automatically.

To prevent Hyper-V virtual machine from creating checkpoints automatically, select Checkpoints in the virtual machine settings and uncheck "Use automatic checkpoints".

    Best Regards,

    Ian Xue

    Hi,

    Thank you for your reply

I don't have issue with disk merging, what I would like to fix is automatic merging

There is obviously something wrong and the automatic merge after backup does not work correctly sometimes

I don't know what interrupts the process

    Description

    Fired by event: 19090 Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-VMMS

Event description: La fusion de disque en arrière-plan 'SERVERXX_replica' a été interrompue. (ID d’ordinateur virtuel 745D2DC7-F586-4D4F-937D-C043CE4D41E3)

    Initiated by: AUTORITE NT\Système

    Knowledge

The snapshot merge operation was interrupted

    Cause

This is usually because .avhd file is in use
