This is the first time I've seen this error, and I've not had luck finding anything on it.

One of my users tried to invite another of my users to a meeting. When he did, he received the following error:

Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups:

Invited User (******@ourdomain.com)
A problem occurred during the delivery of your message likely due to an email system error. This could be a temporary situation. Please try to resend the message later or from a different email program. If the problem continues, contact your email admin.

The following organization rejected your message: EXCHSRVR.ourdomain.local.

In the diagnostic information below can be found this information:

Generating server: EXCHSRVR.ourdomain.local
******@ourdomain.com
EXCHSRVR.ourdomain.local
Remote Server returned '550 5.6.131 MEETINGMESSAGEPROCESSING.Deliver; Failing delivery of meeting message messages without a global object id. [Stage: OnCreatedEvent][Agent: Meeting Message Processing Agent]'

I had him try to invite me and he got the same error, so my guess is it's something to do with either him or with the meeting.
We're trying to avoid deleting the meeting and recreating it as it's a recurring meeting, and he edited the entire series when trying to invite us.

Any thoughts?

They're definitely valid mailboxes (he got the same error trying to invite me) and we haven't made any changes to Exchange (other than CU updates, the most recent one being in July) since moving from 2010. I'll see if he can try in OWA.

It seems more likely to be an Outlook-side issue since it says "messages without a global object id".
Each Outlook appointment item is assigned a Global Object ID, a unique global identifier which does not change during those situations. The Global Object ID is a MAPI property that Outlook uses to correlate meeting updates and responses with a particular meeting on the calendar.
Did you make change to the problematic recurring meeting? Found this thread may help: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/b166e720-d2d7-48d0-a569-75630264c1e3/meeting-global-id-is-empty-when-loading-from-outlook-pst-files-through-mapi?forum=outlookdev
Need your result of testing in OWA to confirm my guess.
