Hi

I can't find any indication on any of the WSUS documentation that cover "Upgrades" classification

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-gb/troubleshoot/windows-client/deployment/standard-terminology-software-updates

that page has a show 10 more but doesn't have "Upgrades"

So the question is, when I read the relevant KB article it says the KB is an "Update" for example the one in my subject line is Windows 11, version 22h2 x64 2023-07B and that is KB number 5028185.

In the WSUS mmc it is under Classification as "Upgrades", but I can't find any documentation that defines what the behaviour is for Upgrades.

So the challenge I am facing is that WSUS firstly can't tell the difference between Windows 10 Operating systems and Windows 11 Operating systems.

All our computers show display in WSUS as Windows 10 Enterprise

So if I were to release this "Upgrade", in the hopes it will install only on the Windows 11 computers, is it going to try Upgrade the Windows 10 computers to Windows 11?

Specific documentation regarding WSUS upgrade for Windows 11 might not be available.

Windows 11 is expected to follow a similar update process as Windows 10. Therefore, you can refer to the Windows 10 documentation and resources related to WSUS to gain insights into the general update and management processes.

It's crucial to stay updated with the latest official documentation from Microsoft as they release Windows 11. I recommend regularly checking the Microsoft Docs website and any other official Microsoft channels for updated information and documentation specific to WSUS and Windows 11.

I think you will find that the documentation DOES NOT cover the Classification UPGRADES

This classification was introduced in WSUS v 6.2.
Please do your research before answering a question with a generic answer.

So we have several of these UPGRADE updates.

    Now does that UPGRADE 22h2 x64 2023-07B to 22h2 x64 2023-08B?

    or

does it take WIndows 10 and make it Windows 11?

If a system is W10 and DOES support all hardware requirements for W11, AND both W11 and W10 22H2's are approved, the system will upgrade to W11. If it does not support the hardware requirements it will update to W10 22H2.

WSUS can tell the difference between W10 and W11, but it is BY DESIGN that the "Operating System" shows up as Windows 10 (after all, W11 is W10 - just the next iteration of it).
