We use a Word template and have a repeated issue with one particular Style within the document. The issue is that after you've saved the template as the Word document, then go to re-open, and enable editing, this one Style changes from font 11 to 14. It is set to 11, and when you first re-open the document, prior to hitting enable editing, the font is correct. Once you hit enable editing, it changes to font 14. We have sent it to different computers to see if it will be repaired, but they all have the same issue.

We have completely rebuilt the template from scratch, and it continue to have the issue with newer versions of the template. The Style in question is one of two styles that are bullet points. Level 1 bullet point (the one with the issue), and level 2 (no issues).

We have checked an unchecked the "automatic update" for the Style, no change, still the same issue.

    First, a quibble about jargon.

When a template is used, a new document is created from the template. When correctly used, the template is never saved as a document. I suspect you are, in fact, creating a new document and not using Save As.

Here is my page on Templates in Microsoft Word.

    Now, as to your problem...

When a document is created from your template, check to see if the option is set to automatically update styles upon opening.

See [What happens when I send my document to someone else? Will Word mess up my formatting?] by Shauna Kelly.

You can check this setting in the Templates and Add-Ins dialog. One way to get to this is under the Developer Tab, click on the Document Template button. It is a checkbox, and you want it clear. If it is checked, open your template for editing (with the new document closed) and clear the checkbox in the template.
