w8.1 How to delete sign in password for other Local Account

My Windows 8.1 Update was not working for last 3 years, and now Windows Defender has also stopped updating virus definitions.

Searching on net, I found a suggestion that I create another local user account and sign in with that and see whether Windows update is working and/ or defender is updating.

So I created another local user account, made it administrator, didn't assign it any password.

Now, when I go to windows 8.1 sign in screen, both accounts are visible.

  1. When I click on that second local account, it asks for password, though I didn't set any.
  2. If I click enter, meaning a 0 length password, it says "you must give you sign in details" or something.
  3. When I enter any random password, it says you must be online first time you sign in to your account.

I am on a broadband, I have to first sign in and then give command to start the broadband, only then I can become online. So, how can I be online on the sign in screen itself for MS to set my account?

How can I sign in to the other local account without having to give a password, or by giving a 0 length password?

Thanks.

    Hi,

Please open registry editor and locate the value LimitBlankPasswordUse under the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa. Change the data of this value to 0 and reboot.

    Hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Hello there,

In Windows 8.1, if you have administrative privileges, you can remove the sign-in password for other local user accounts by following these steps:

Open the Control Panel: Press the Windows key + X on your keyboard and select "Control Panel" from the menu that appears.

User Accounts: In the Control Panel, select "User Accounts" (If you don't see it, change the "View by" option to "Large icons" or "Small icons").

Manage Another Account: Click on "Manage another account" to view a list of all user accounts on the system.

Select the Account: Choose the local user account for which you want to remove the password.

Change the Password: Click on "Change the password" to access the password settings for that account.

Remove the Password: In the password settings, leave the "New password" and "Confirm new password" fields empty. Click "Change password" or "Remove password" (the exact wording may vary depending on your version of Windows).

Confirm Administrative Privileges: Windows will prompt you to confirm that you have administrative privileges. If you are the administrator or have administrative rights, proceed by clicking "Yes."

Password Removed: The password for the selected local user account will be removed. From now on, the user won't need to enter a password to sign in to that account.

Remember that removing the password from an account makes it less secure, and anyone with physical access to your computer will have unrestricted access to that user's files and settings. Only remove the password for accounts that you trust or don't require strict security measures.

Hope this resolves your Query !!
