Side by side migration from SCOM 2019 to SCOM 2022

Question

I am looking for information on doing a side by side migration from scom 2019 to scom 2022. I have found a lot of information about an in-place upgrade but not side by side migration.

Hi,

SCOM 2019 can coexist with SCOM 2022 (see Supported coexistence), so it is possible to install a SCOM 2022 environment on the side, then you can make your SCOM 2019 agents report to your SCOM 2022 management group, and slowly perform a side-by-side migration.

In general, you will need to do the following activities:

1. Import the same or updated sealed management packs as the 2019 SCCM. You can also reuse the same AD service accounts if you want.
2. Export and import any unsealed management packs for webmonitors, overrides, dashboards, etc. Look at the Export-SCOMManagementPack cmdlet. For web transaction web monitors you need to reassign the agent watchers.
3. Recreate the security profiles and accounts on the new SCOM. Assign them the dashboard permission.
4. Dual-home the SCOM agents and upgrade them.
5. Migrate any SCOM registry tweaks to SCOM 2022.
6. Optional, on the new SCOM server you can drop the DW and attach a backup restore of the DW from the SCOM 2019 server.

Of course there are many prerequisites and smaller tasks but this should get you started.
