I am using the most updated version of word and excel, on a Windows 10 device. Both apps are working with out issue. When I am in word I got to the insert tab and select object, then select Microsoft Excel Worksheet. But I am given an error saying "The program used to create this object is excel. that program is either not installed on your computer or it is not responding. to edit this object, install excel or ensure that any dialog boxes in excel are closed." I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the apps, restarted the computer, ran it as and admin, made sure "Ignore other applications that use DDE" is not selected, and disabled all COM addins. Computer is a Dell Latitude 7300, Windows 10 OS 64 bit. I did try both 64 and 32 bit version of the apps, but still got the error.

    Hi @Samuel COFFEY

I am using the most updated version of word and excel,

Did you install any software or Office updates before this issue occurred?

"Ignore other applications that use DDE" is not selected, and disabled all COM addins Do you mean all COM Addins have been disabled in Word and Excel?

    • Please right-click on task bar > Task Manager > Ensure the Excel instance is not running in background before insert Excel object.
    • Clear temp files
      • Search %temp% in Windows Search Box, locate to C:\Users<User Name>\AppData\Local\Temp
      • Delete the temporary cache files
      • Reboot the computer to have a check
    • Besides, you may create a new local Windows administrator account, sign into this Windows account to have a check.

I solved this problem by disabling all COM add-ins in both Word and Excel. It was a Logitech mouse add-in causing the problem in my case. See:
