I am trying to update DOT net framework from DOT NET Framework 4.6.2. to 4.7.2 but I am unable to. I am getting the following error HRESULT 0x800f081e. This is on Windows server 2016. I need to install DOT NET Framework 4.7.2. In order to install SQL 2022.

I did. Nothing in there that's helpful regarding. Just states that it failed.

It is recommended that you install .NET Framework 4.7.2 by installing the Windows update.
Check .NET Framework 4.7.2 is available on Windows Update, WSUS and MU Catalog to find and install the appropriate Windows update.

Also tried .net framework repair tool and that did not work. It's still failing. @Jiachen Li-MSFT
Hi @Evrard , Do you mean that there is also the same error when installing Windows Update KB4054590?
Please try the .NET Framework 4.7.2 offline installer for Windows.
Also consider using the built-in Windows Update Troubleshooter to automatically detect and fix issues with Windows Update.
@Jiachen Li-MSFT That is correct. I am receiving the same error message with the same error code. I also tried the DOT NET Framework repair tool and that did not work.
Upon checking HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\ComponentDetect I noticed there are no keys. The folder is empty, I'm wondering if it's related?
I'll try the new download you provided and see if that works.

If there's a problem in your registry, it could cause the installation to fail. You can try the steps below.
ComponentDetect folder is empty or missing keys, you can try recreating it. To do this, you can export the same registry keys from a working system with the same Windows version and import them into your system.
