Active OneDrive slows down entire AVD environment

Our client is using AVD for about 5 weeks in 'production' now. It is a smaller company with about 40 users. We have 6 VM's in AVD (D4s_v5) in use at the moment. We have tried D8s_v5 without any improvement.
We have the following issues:
But we see memory and cpu usage at high levels most of the time with OneDrive at the top of the processes. Every server feels sluggish at the moment. Starting Excel takes about 30-40 seconds, Word about the same time. Opening a Word document takes about 20-25 seconds to open and opening folders from the right (yes only the right pane) in explorer takes about 7-15 seconds per folder.

All those folders are folders from SharePoint document libraries.
It doens't matter if a folder is fully synced with the server or it isn't.

We are using FSlogic with profiles stored on azure.

I was reading a blog of Christian Brinkhoff about almost the same kind of issues but can't really pinpoint the exact cause or find a solution for this issue.

Can you help me out?

    Hi All,

Firstly anyone get an update on this - we have exactly the same issue.

AVD deployed in April, Multi-Session Windows 11. Latest updates for Windows and 4 pooled avd's with approx 20 users.

Clicking folders in left hand side of explorer is normal but in the main window slow to open subsequent folders. PDf's are fast but word and excel are taking about 10-40 seconds to open.

Disabled AntiVirus and still the same
All others applications are working as normal.

One thing I did note was when in Word or Excel and then navigating to One drive the speed is normal, so seems like a Onedrive/File Explorer issue to me. I also opened cmd prompt and opened files from Onedrive at normal speed.

    Regards

    Joe

We are experiencing the same issue with one of our AVD customers (West Europe Azure).
Created a new host pool to test a new image, all good.

However after 2-3 days the environment is really slow, most noticable is opening of (larger) PDF-files where Adobe says not responding, these files however are not hosted in the OneDrive.

Regarding this issue where I posted info on June 28th. Last week we had to rebuild the session hosts for this client for another reason. Updated all apps that are running on the VMs, including OneDrive, M365Apps, Teams New and third party apps like Firefox, Adobe Reader, 7Zip, Notepad++ etc. we noticed that the issues disappeared. Unfortunately we have no clue why, but our customer was very happy with the new session hosts.

I made a discovery yesterday about how things were working in our environment. I had undersized the AVD's - we have just 20 users so we setup 2 pools, and incorrectly thought a 2 core, 16gig device would do the trick for each of the 2 servers in the pool. After updating to 4 core models, I also discovered we hadn't enabled the premium disk bursting, so I decided to upgrade the disks to p20's and set t he size to 513gb so I could check the box for bursting, also performed this disk change on our hosted Domain controller that is handing out gpo's and update it from 2c 8gig to 2c 16gig, things are working tons better for everyone so far today. This is something that has worked for this small environment, however the solution for us here was to next time increase the server sizing when deploying.
