help with sd card and disk drive drivers

my computer wont see my SD
cards as portable or removable devices anymore. they see them as dick drives and i don't know how to convert it back.

As this has happened to me as well, depending on the scenarion it can be frustrating. I'm assuming that you would like your portable drive to be listed as so because windows won't boot from an external hard drive? In any case, many people will try to get you to change BIOS settings to bypass this. DO NOT DO THIS. It can lead to future problems and failiures, especially regarding registries, pagination, virtual disks...
The corect way to get your thumb drive listed as such is:
- Back-up the information you have on it. Yuo will loose it during the process.
- Type: Terminal in the windows search bar.
- Right-click and Run as an administrator.
- In the Terminal, type: diskutil
- Type: list
This will list all drives on your computer. Be VERY CAREFUL HERE, THIS IS POWERFUL SOFTWARE AND WILL DESTROY YOUR DATA FOREVER. Choose the correct disk by looking at the sizes. If you have 2 same sized disks, use other mean to identify the correct one. DO NOT GUESS.
6.Type: select disk <number> (This will select the chosen disk and any operation done afterwards will be on that disk)
7. Type: clean
8. Type: create partition primaryHere it al depends on the application you need this for. If I would know more about your situation I could offer more tilored help, but assuming you need this to be a boot drive we are just looking for it to get recognized as an external disk drive.
- Type: format fs=exFat quick (for larger than 32GB sd's)
fs=fat32 quick (for smaller)
fs=ntfs quick (universal), I would use this if re-using as a portable disck drive for windows. But exFat and Fat32 will offer a mor versatile portability as they can be read by Linux and MacOS. - type: assign
This will assign a drive letter and you are done! Type exit and your sd card is as it was whwen you bought it, it will be correctly identified.
Now if you can't Back-Up and need to save the info, there are many things you could check, let me know if this is trhe case and I can guide you through.!

2024-03-05T09:23:52.46+00:00 i am 3d printing and my printer required a sd card formated but i cant change it from the disk drive.. i can upload anything that may help. there is nothing on the sd card its strickly for my ender
