External Sharing Setting in SharePoint Admin Center

Under SharePoint Admin, Polices, Sharing:

If I make changes to the slider, moving to New and Existing Guest must sign in
File and Folder Links Specific People

What will the impact be to links shared before the change is made? Will Anyone with the link type links get disabled, it sounds like New and Existing guest will need to sign in to access the shares.

Per my test, if you change sharing level to New and existing guests and set the type of link as Specific People, those links shared before will be invalid. Anyone with the link type get disabled.

Thank you Emily, do you know if that is for all previous links? If a link created before meets the new set rules will that link also get disabled, do you know if it will notify the folks the docs or folder are shared with status has changed? Thanks again

If you change the sharing policy in the SharePoint admin center, all previous links will be disabled.

It will not notify folks the document or folder are shared with status has been changed.

Thank you Emily, what about shares to a specific person, do those count as links also? I am trying to avoid chaos with my users, if they can identify the most important shares and re-share them to specific email address instead of anonymous links, will those shares continue to work or will every type of share need to be re-shared? Thanks again for your help I don't have a test environment to try these things in.

If you change sharing level to New and existing guests, those links shared to specific person before are also valid.

You do not need to re-share again.
