Windows Insider SDK not working since 25936

I'm trying to build a simple .NET 6.0 app - Just install the 25936 insider preview SDK then create a blank WPF/.NET 6.0 app and add to the .csproj:

<TargetFramework>net6.0-windows10.0.25936.0</TargetFramework><UseWindowsSdkPreview>true</UseWindowsSdkPreview>

It builds and generates the SDK nuget package here:

C:\Users\username.nuget\packages\microsoft.windows.sdk.net.ref\10.0.25936-preview

But that doesn't work for any 26xxx SDK. Download the 26085 preview SDK and change the TFM to

<TargetFramework>net6.0-windows10.0.26085.0</TargetFramework>
And you get:

error NU1102: Unable to find package Microsoft.Windows.SDK.NET.Ref with version (= 10.0.26085-preview)

Here are some steps you could check:

1.Ensure that your NuGet package sources are configured correctly and include the source where the Microsoft.Windows.SDK.NET.Ref package for version 26085-preview is available.

You can check and manage NuGet package sources in Visual Studio under Tools > Options > NuGet Package Manager > Package Sources.

2.Ensure that you're using the latest version of the NuGet Package Manager.

3.Double-check the availability of the Windows Insider Preview SDK version 26085. Sometimes, certain preview versions may not be available or may have been removed temporarily from the preview feed.

4.Try clearing the NuGet cache by running the following command in the Package Manager Console:

dotnet nuget locals all --clear

5.If the NuGet package manager fails to locate the package, you can try manually adding the package reference by specifying the package version and source URL directly in the .csproj file.

Thanks @Hui Liu-MSFT for your suggestions, however after some more investigation I think the reason that it can't find the nuget package is because it doesn't exist.

Download the 26085 SDK from the insider site (not sure this step is even necessary)

Use the TFM above as described on the insider blog

Attempt to build and see that VS makes a call to nuget to download the SDK

The SDK Package doesn't exist so the build fails

Confirmed here - https://www.nuget.org/packages/Microsoft.Windows.SDK.NET.Ref/10.0.25936-preview

We see the latest version is 25936, which is the highest version that works in my test app, but currently 7 months old.

Here are some steps you could take:
1.If the SDK version is relatively new, it's possible that Microsoft hasn't released the corresponding NuGet package yet. You may need to wait until they publish it to the NuGet repository.

2.As you mentioned, if possible, you can download the Insider Preview SDK directly from the Windows Insider website. This ensures you have the correct version required for development.

3.If the features or changes introduced in the latest Insider Preview SDK are not critical for your project, you could consider downgrading to a previous version that has a corresponding NuGet package available.

Hello @Hui Liu-MSFT , Thanks for your suggestions. (1) yes it is new, but I was under the impression that that's the purpose of the Insider program. Based on the timing of last insider NuGet release, we'll need to wait 6 months, roughly the time that 24H2 will release. (2) is kind of the gist of this question. I can download the preview SDK but visual studio ignores it and is only looking for a NuGet package. (3) - We specifically need a recent release.
