Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

Always create a dashboard that would be suitable to your environment. For example, below is my dashboard that I would see as soon as I login into portal.azure.com. I have customized it to reflect the resource name, type and the region they are in. If you want, you can track by cost too. Let me know if this is what you are referring to.

Where do you see these menu options? Based on my understanding, this seems to be resource menu option of Subscriptions in the portal.

My Subscription's resource view is very similar to what you have shown - I am trying to understand what has changed or am I missing something?

The collapsible sections view, as in my picture - it's a pain as you need to go looking for things. I much prefer the old style layout, for example:

Do you see the favorite option in that bar? Mark the services that you need in the dashboard as 'Favorite'

You can click on the ellipsis button to drag all the services up and down as per your need

When did this update roll out? Doesn't appear for all users.

I'd love to have the old menu back, just for a clear separation between menu items the config doesn't allow this option.

I'm one of the lucky ones to have the new expieience and i agree it sucks and would love to go back, I guess if you are in the portal everyday doing specific taks it might be nice to not see anything you dont need, but when you are trying to find an option its a PITA.

Just logged in today to find this new layout, while the rest of my team still enjoys the old style.

An option to change it back would be much appreciated.

The menu was improved to be flexible for all users.

You can personalize the default collapse/expand state in the Appearance + startup views settings

Each menu adapts to your usage, remembering the menu groups you left collapsed/expanded per resource type throughout sessions

For quick access, you can mark frequently used items as favorites

Please let us know if you have any questions on the improved menu. I would like to hear what you think about it now that you’ve used it for a while.

"Improved" in whose opinion?

Not mine anyway - I get your point about it being customisable but I and other here clearly prefer the old way of working. At least having it as an option wouldn't be so bad, instead of forcing someone else's idea of "improved" on us.

You can control the default behavior of service/resource menu by using the steps below:

In Azure Portal, click "Settings" icon at the top right corner:
Select "Appearance + startup views"
Select "Expanded" option for "Service menu behavior"

Setting this option will ensure that the resource menus open with an expanded view where all the options are visible.

That just opens them - it's still not the way it was previously.

Also, I found that the Modules menu was missing in the new layout for Azure Automation accounts. Bit strange....

Andrew Williamson, thank you for the reply. I agree with your point and I will be reaching out to portal experience team to get more details around it.

Regarding the missing "Modules" menu from the Azure Automation account - this is not related to the overall Portal update. Instead, it appears that you have switched to using the new "Runtime Environment Experience" under Azure Automation. In this new experience, the modules are part of Runtime Environment itself.

For Azure Automation, if you wish to switch to old experience, the option is available in Overview as shown below:
