Issue: Unable to Assign Categories to Emails in Shared Mailboxes on Outlook for macOS

Hello all,

I am using Outlook for macOS, version 16.86, which is the latest version available.

For some reason, I am unable to assign categories to individual emails in shared mailboxes. The button to assign categories is greyed out, whereas it was functional just yesterday.

I have tried removing and re-adding the shared mailbox, but this did not resolve the issue. Additionally, I no longer see the categories that were previously assigned to emails.

I have also checked if this problem occurs in Outlook Web Access (OWA), and there, the issue does not appear.

Does anyone else have the same problem or any ideas on how to effectively solve this?

    I don’t know what has changed. The issue has been fixed, at least for me. There has been no update; I’m still running on the same version.

    Hi, I also am experiencing this issue. I was using categories yesterday (March 14 2024) and when I opened my Mac this morning, they were no longer working.

    It's possible my account type changed overnight to POP or IMAP due to IT shenanigans, but I don't think so. However, I don't have access to my account settings so I can't be sure until my IT team gets back to me.

    I am still able to use categories on my personal account, which is an M365/Exchange account.

    The other user accessing this shared email inbox reports the same issues.

    Hello! I am having the same issue. Categories in all shared inboxes is unavailable as of 5/15, but it was working fine the day before. It seems to only be an Outlook for Mac, as Categories work just fine in the PC version of Outlook.

    Same issue here since yesterday/today may 16th.
    In an office with 10x Outlook 365 on mac's and categories are greyed out in every shared inbox. (not in personal inboxes)
    Please fix this my team is going crazy they categorize everything!

    I have found that when returning to the 'old outlook' the categories are not greyed out anymore, so maybe we'll switch back for the time being.

    We are having the same problem today on multiple computers (Outlook for Mac), so it seems to be a general problem.

    I'm guessing an update to Outlook was rolled out, and borked this functionality.
