Is it possible to temporarily disable a deployment to cut down on costs? Specifically, I need to have a deployed app running during the day but turned off at night to avoid unnecessary charges.

The app is a function app, and the resources used include:

  • Storage account
  • Storage account
  • App Service plan
  • Application Insights
  • Function App
  • Smart detector alert rule

It would be helpful to know which resources generate expenses, so I can understand how to reduce costs.

Thank you for any help you can provide!

Hi there Chantelle Christina Victoria Osafo

    Thanks for using QandA platform

I guess, Yes, it is possible.

    1. While you cannot "pause" a Function App directly, you can stop it to prevent it from running and incurring costs. In the Azure portal, navigate to your Function App, and select "Stop." This will halt the app and stop it from executing any functions.
    2. The App Service Plan is the pricing tier for your Function App. Stopping the Function App does not stop charges for the App Service Plan. To avoid charges, you would need to scale down the App Service Plan to the Free or a lower tier. but, if you stop your App Service Plan, all apps running on it will be stopped.
    3. Storage costs are based on the amount of data stored and the transactions performed. You can't "pause" a storage account, but you can manage and delete unnecessary data.
    4. To reduce costs here, you can disable or reduce the amount of telemetry data being sent. You can adjust the sampling rate or disable Application Insights when not needed.
    5. Disabling the Smart Detector alert rule will stop it from monitoring and triggering alerts. Navigate to the Alerts section in the Azure portal, find your alert rule, and disable it.

If this helps kindly accept the answer thanks much.,
