Azure DevOps Demo Generator not creating a new project despite saying provisioning was succesfull

step 5 of training 'Create a build pipeline with Azure Pipelines' tells you to use the Azure DevOps Demo Generator and create a new project using the 'Create a build pipeline with Azure Pipelines' template. After selecting the template, providing a name and selecting my DevOps organization, the template says it has succesfully provisioned my new project, but when I click the link it says 404 url not found. When I check projects in my DevOps environment the project also doesn't show up.

I did enable the use of older templates in the organisation DevOps settings as instructed by the template generator. Any suggestions why the generator fails to provision a project or to fail at giving a error? An alternative way to use such template would also suffice.

I had the same issue. Turns out that the reason why it doesn't finish generating the demo app is in the organization Policies. You need to enable the third-party application access via OAuth as well.

Try if enabling this helps.

Thank you @Henry Konno - I've just wasted over 30 minutes creating new organizations and projects, each time finding the same issue, and your fix resolved this for me too, although I have to say that it's a real shame that this issue exists causing so many of us to waste time, and there hasn't been any help from Microsoft on this....

@Henry Konno 's recommendation got me further. I now have a second project created in my organization; however, the 'Navigate to project' button still took me to a 404 Not found webpage

I followed @Henry Konno 's advice, waited 15 mins, refreshed the generator page and it then worked.

If it works you will see similar to this before you get the navigate button

Update: I have 2 organizations and only had it enabled for 1 organization working now.

I have the third-party application via oauth enabled and it is still not working.

Hi All, Please find the workaround/solution for this problem.

Login to Azure Devops > Click on Organizaiton Settings

on LHS Menu > Under Security

Click on Polices

On the Polices page, make the below setting should enabled or ON, see the below screen shot.

After you enable the below setting, now try to create the new project using azure demo generator, it should be created

Hello, I have the same issue, do you monitor this?

The free subscription do not offer us to create support tickets, you should provide a ticket option on the demo generation page if it fails so it is possible to simply get it up running.

If not it hault the learning process and I belive that is not in the interest of Microsoft.

Hi

Please go to your Org settings, under security , click on polices and enable the "Third Path access applications via OAuth

After the above setting is enabled, azure demo generator is working and you should be able to create the project successfully.
