Here are the troubleshooting details, I have already been on other questions with same topic and none of the solutions helped -

Hi,

What kind of account did you try to sign in?

Did this problem only appear in Excel? How about other Office products?

It is recommended that you check whether you have a firewall or anti-virus software enabled. Try to log in after disabling.

Hello, thank you for your response but this solution did not work. This error is occurring for all Office products such as PowerPoint, Word and Excel but I can still log into OneDrive. This error occurs regardless of the account I sign into, it doesn't even prompt me for the password, as soon as I type in an email, this error occurs. I saw another thread which says to cut the OneAuth and IdentityCache folders from Microsoft but these folders are not there in my Microsoft folder (both Roaming and Local).

Hi,

You can try this method to remove the cached Office account identities from the registry:

1.    Start Registry Editor.

2.    Locate the following registry subkey:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity

   Right-click Identity, and then select Delete.

Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, please remember to back up the registry for restoration in case problems occur.

Hello, thank you for the reply. This also did not work. Just a question, now that it did not work, is it better to leave the registry editor without Identity folder or should I restore to the state it was before?

Hello, for anyone having this issue I found a solution and have managed to now log into my school account in Excel -> My fix was to place two services on Automatic and then restarted them. They were the "Microsoft Account Sign-In Assistant" and "Web Account Manager". This fix was found by apeman1 in one of the other discussion regarding the same issue.
