I've been having problems with the remote desktop connection from the native Windows client, on the Windows 11 operating system version 23H2 Build 22631.3593. the image always freezes if I am connected from an external network to a server, but if I use the Microsoft Remote Desktop application, I do not have that problem, the detail is that I need to enable both user screens since they work that way. But this app doesn't allow me to use multiple screens anymore. Is there any way I can enable 2 screens in this app or if you know any solution to the original problem of the native client and the image freezes?

The server where the clients connect is a Virtual windows server 2019 on Hyper-V and the host server is behind a simple home router, we don't have ACLs for remote access or any big Firewall setup.

    Hello,

For the Native Remote Desktop Client Freeze Issue, you may try disabling UDP.

    On Client:

GPO: Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Connection Client State: Enabled Setting: "Turn Off UDP on Client"

    On Server:

GPO: Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Connections\Select RDP transport protocols State: Enabled Setting: "Use TCP only"

    User's image

If the session hang is limited to the external network, it may indicate a network problem.

Enabling Dual Screens in Microsoft Remote Desktop App:

    • right click on remote desktop PC shown in the list of PCs on desktop app
    • click on settings and uncheck "Use default settings"
    • in Display configuration drop down choose "Select displays"
    • hit "Detect" & "Identify" if in case you don't see your monitors
    • and then just select which all monitors you want to use for remote desktop User's image

You may also set policy via GPO:

    Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Remote Session Environment

    User's image
