Targetting xaml for multi platform

I have a xaml that includes android specific library as assembly and it needs to compiled only for android target platforms. I tried by putting it in platforms folder but it did not work . My assembly inclusion is present in xaml itself like the below code , The following inclusion should compile only for android and i get an error that type or name space could not be found in the global namespace for other platforms other than android

If you need to restrict a dependency to specific targets you can edit the csproj to add a condition. For example, this includes Android class Library only for Android platform.

As note: if you edit the csproj file, please rebuild your MAUI project.

Hi Lu ,

I understand that we have conditional dependency, but i have a xaml which can be compiled by all platforms since a library is present only for android and not for other target frameworks ,it throws an error in xaml , I need to know how can I push xaml to not compile against this target framework.

Is this library Android Class Library or the .NET MAUI Class library?

If this library is Android Class Library, you cannot add it in the xaml. But you could create a class that derives from View, then use handler to return this control from Android Class Library by ViewHandler'sPlatformView. You can refer to this document about: Create a custom control using handlers

Hi Lu,

This is an external library which only supports Android and IOS , my issue is with my XUNITs which wants the library to support .net8.0 as well . How should i handle this case? For other CS files i was able to handle it properly using multi target compilation but not for a xaml which can be compiled only by net8.0 android and net8.0 - ios .

Which platform do you want to support for MAUI project? If you just support for iOS and Android, you can try to remove windows and maccatalyst in your <TargetFrameworks> of csproj file like following code. then rebuild it, will you get the same error?

<PropertyGroup> <TargetFrameworks>net8.0-android;net8.0-ios</TargetFrameworks>  </PropertyGroup>

Hi Lu,

Thanks for the input , i have it already in place . The problem is with XUnits where it requires .net8.0 to be added to target frameworks and not all libraries in my project support this framework as they are more specific to either android or IOS and hence i would need an option to include or compile this xaml only for either Android or IOS.

Did you add this <TargetFrameworks>net8.0-android;net8.0-ios;net8.0</TargetFrameworks>? And you will get the same error. If you add xmlns:dataView="clrnamespace:DataView.DataCapture.Core.UI.Maui;assembly=DataCaptureCoreMaui"> in the <ContentPage>, and donot use it in the xaml, will it build normally?

If so, you can try to use <OnPlatform> tag in the xaml

<OnPlatform x:TypeArguments="View"> <On Platform="Android"> <android:ImageAndroid /> </On> <On Platform="iOS"> <ios:ImageViewiOS /> </On> </OnPlatform>
