Ability to delete/remove content in MS Purview

Hi,

I have been attempting to establish some business domains within MS Purview but have noticed despite having a data governance admin role (and all others) assigned to me, I am unable to remove or delete newly created domains/CDEs.

I also have noticed once allocating a parent domain in the drop down, I cannot unselect the parent domain, only swap between available options.

Is there something I am missing?

Hi,

I cannot find the option within the interface to attempt to delete Domains/CDEs. I have checked documentation provided but maybe I have missed something?

From my end it seems like there is no available option for deleting these.

To delete a domain or CDE in Microsoft Purview, you can follow these steps:

Sign in to the Microsoft Purview portal.

Navigate to the Data Map feature using the left side panel. Then select Domains or CDEs depending on what you want to delete.

Select the domain or CDE you want to delete.

In the details pane, select the Delete button.

Confirm the deletion by selecting Yes.

If you are not seeing the Delete button, it's possible that you do not have the necessary permissions to delete domains or CDEs. In this case, you may need to contact your administrator to grant you the appropriate permissions.

Sorry, I should be more clear!

I am referring to "Business Domains" within the Data Catalog and the associated Critical Data Elements that have been created within that domain.

I am not referring to domains created within the data map

@Josh Ireland - Thank you for clarifying. In that case, as a data governance admin, you should have the necessary permissions to delete or remove Business Domains and Critical Data Elements (CDEs) within the Data Catalog in Microsoft Purview.

If you are unable to delete or remove these objects, it is possible that they are associated with other objects in the Data Catalog, such as assets or classifications. In this case, you would need to remove those associations before you can delete the Business Domains or CDEs.

To remove associations, you can navigate to the object that is associated with the Business Domain or CDE, and remove the association from there. Once all associations have been removed, you should be able to delete the Business Domain or CDE.

If you are still unable to delete or remove the Business Domains or CDEs, I would recommend to open a support ticket for further assistance.

Hi,

I can confirm that I have the necessary roles/permissions and that these Domains and CDE objects are unlinked to any assets/classifications.

There is no available option in the UI for me to attempt any deletions.

I will open a ticket to further clarify my situation.

@Josh Ireland - I agree that this issue looks strange and I wasn't able to reproduce this issue. If you have a support plan could you please file a support ticket for deeper investigation and do share the SR# with us?

Hi. Same issues on my side, even though I believe I have the necessary admin permissions. I am unable to delete a Business Domain, Data Product, CDE, Glossary Term and OKR. I am also unable to remove these objects from the Business Domain, even though it is in Draft status. Please assist.

Hello! I can now delete all business concepts (glossary terms, critical data elements, and OKRs) as well as domains themselves (now called "governance domains") in the new GA release of Microsoft Purview Data Governance. Additionally, I can also unselect the parent domain from a child domain.
