Unable to update July 9, 2024—KB5040430 (OS Build 17763.6054) on Windows Server 2019

While running the update July 9, 2024—KB5040430 (OS Build 17763.6054) on Windows Server 2019, I am getting the below error.

Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x800F0983: 2024-07 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2019 (1809) for x64-based Systems (KB5040430) server 2019

    Hello,

    I have a similar or same problem. I have terminal servers farm with 10 servers 2019 and I'm unable to install KB5040430 on any of them. I already tried all the steps described in the first answer, but without success. I got error code 0x800f0922.

    It fails even I tried to install it manually from catalog. But KB is successfuly downloaded, installed, before restart installation goes to 30%, then after restart it continues to 100% and then starts undoing changes.

    Non terminal servers 2019 have no problem with that update, but 10 terminal servers do.

    Any other ideas?

    Hello,

    1.Running the update troubleshooter. Select Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Windows Update > Run the troubleshooter.

    2.Manually downloading the updates from Microsoft Update Catalog.

    3.Performing a clean boot. This is a way of starting Windows with only the essential services and programs, which can help eliminate any software conflicts that might interfere with the update process. Please refer to this link: How to perform a clean boot in Windows - Microsoft Support

    4.Restarting the update services. You can do this by using the Services tool (services.msc) and stopping and starting the following services: Windows Update, Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and Cryptographic Services.

    5.Check if there is enough disk space available on your system drive. If not, free up some space and try the update again.

    6.Disable any third-party antivirus or firewall software temporarily and try the update again.
