Can't complete phone number verification when signing-up for Azure pay-as-you-go

I'm trying to sign-up for Azure pay-as-you-go subscription however when it comes to phone number verification, when I select either the "text me" or "call me" buttons, I'm redirected to an error page that states: "

We’re unable to validate your phone number

Phone validation is required to confirm your identity and complete signup.

"

I have verified multiple times that the phone number entered is correct.

I've tried to open an azure support request for assistance however i get stuck as soon as I get to "Which service are you having an issue with?" because I am not presented with any options. I hope someone will be able to help.
