How can I eliminate Google locking me out of Outlook unless I login through Google?

I have Outlook installed on multiple devices (PC, iPad, iPhone). Have used it for years without any issues. I have no problems using Outlook with my PC. But on my iPad I am now getting a message requiring me to login to Google in order to access Outlook. It is preventing me from sending any email. But when I try to login, the screen freezes and I can't finish the process. How do I eliminate this message?
