Upgrade in Place of Entra Connect from Windows Server 2016 to Windows Server 2019 or 2022

Is it possible to upgrade in place the Entra Connect server from Windows Server 2016 to Windows Server 2019 or Windows Server 2022?

    Hello

    In short no it's not recommended method as mentioned in the link below
    Upgrading the server Operating System.

    If you want upgrade the Operating system of EntraConnect Server , you should migrate to new server or following these steps if you have only this server.

    1. Export Entra Connect settings
    2. Rebuild the server with target OS Windows 2019 or Windows 2022
    3. Install EntraConnect server using settings exported in Step 1.

    If you have a second EntraConnect server in staging mode, you can perform the following steps:

    1. Export Entra Connect server on staging server
    2. Rebuild the staging server with target OS Windows 2019 or Windows 2022
    3. Install EntraConnect server using settings exported in Step 1 and enable staging mode
    4. Enable staging mode on first server
    5. Disabe staging server on second server
    6. Export Entra Connect settings on first server
    7. Rebuild the first server with target OS Windows 2019 or Windows 2022
    8. Install EntraConnect on first server using settings exported in Step 1.

    If you need to upgrade the operating system(OS) of your Microsoft Entra Connect server, the recommended method is to prepare a new server with the desired operating system and perform a swing migration.

    However, if this isn't possible, the following in-place OS upgrades are supported.

    Intial OS Supported in-place upgrade OS
    Windows Server 2016 Windows Server 2022
    Windows Server 2019 Windows Server 2022
